No Diving!
Heavily researched for this trip to Vietnam, was the best places to scuba dive and then making the opportunity to fit in with our itinerary. I knew a dive out of Con Dao island, of the coast Hoi An. Perfect, I was excited to dive in the seas off Vietnam. With further research, I had chosen the dive company I was going with and booked a spot a few days ago. How beautiful it would be as you see from the image below. This could have been me Alas, it wasn't to be. The night be

Two Bikes are Better Than One
Kev is feeling much better today but trying to stay clear of people which makes it an excellent time to go exploring on hired motorbikes. In fact they are more like scooters, 125cc. A little bit extra power than we have at home but we've ridden this style in Indonesia many times. Today was all about adventuring on the scooters and see what we find. I dropped a pin on a beach location on my google maps and away we went. Mine was the pretty yellow one Riding through the lit

A Sea Change
Looking to take in a sea change before heading inland again, we spent a few nights at Tan Thanh Beach which is only 15 minutes drive from Hoi An. A room with a view A few days prior we road out to this beach area to check out the different areas and accommodation that we could book into. Thank goodness we did - hotel booking site photos show some of the accommodation places in a better light than they really are. The Santa Villa had a lovely pool out front and was directl

Rest Day in Hoi An
Now with Kevin not being well it's a bit of a rest day with not a lot happening so I'll take this opportunity to chat about bits and pieces. What the Japanese Red Bridge looks like What we saw An absolutely must when your beer is served slightly chilled. We've got used to ice in our beer now, in fact I'm quite liking it. Beer & Ice Banh mi and beer also work well together just like parmi and a pint back at home. As we move up the long country of Vietnam we've noticed th

Hoi An day 2 ends with bad news.
Good morning Hoi An! Waking up early definitely has its advantages. Today I was greeted by a pink moon settling over the traditional concrete houses with a small crop of rice in the foreground. This image does not do it any justice at all. It was quite spectacular. Now out of a highrise hotel building it was lovely to wake up to fresh air and being able to step outside. With a scooter organised we headed off back to the old city to wander around and visit the family temp

Hai Van Pass & More
Today is the day we hire our first scooter for the trip. While we get used to riding in Viet Nam we opt for only one scooter as here they drive on the opposite side of the road to us. Oh, and there are no stop signs or give way signs but astoundingly there is no road rage or accidents. It just works. Also love the traffic lights having a countdown to stop and go but traffic starts to go at 3 on the 3, 2, 1 countdown. Also apparently it's against the law to turn right on a

The Sites & Smells of Da Nang
With Google maps pinned with all the points of interest, we head out ready to explore Da Nang. Already we are loving the vibe of this, the 3rd largest city in Viet Nam with less traffic to navigate and not as many high rise buildings. First stop was the Com Market which is a one stop shop type of market not unlike our local shopping centre. Actually, truth be told, it's nothing like that at all. The only similarity is that you can do your weekly shopping here. This is wh

Day at HCMC Domestic Airport
We now head to our second destination Da Nang, with an easy checkin which included a free piece of checked in luggage. Yay, got to be happy with that! All is going well, easy transit through security then make ourselves comfortable for a short wait before our flight if called. That's what we thought. I double check our boarding pass and the boarding time is 15:35. This must be wrong, we should be boarding soon. Another check and I notice that the flight number doesn't mat

The Horrors of War
Today was a pretty tough day as we knew it would be but it was a must do. Preparing ourselves we went to The War Remnants Museum which depicts quite graphicly America's involvement in the Vietnam War. The museum was very slanted from the Vietnamese point of view but photos don't lie! These images show quite clearly the war crimes that American solders committed, the affects of chemical warfare during and generations after the war. It's stomach turning. There were im

Goood Mooorning Viet Nam!
Sorry about the corny title but I couldn't help myself. The Vietnamese language is monosyllabic therefore Viet Nam is two words (two syllables). This is one of the many facts we learned today on our free walking tour of Ho Chi Minh City highlights. The written language in its current written form came about in the 17th century by Catholic missionaries transcribing the Bible into a Latin text. Iconic landmark where US government evacuated after the fall of Saigon (HCMC) We h

Travel Day & We’ve Already Been Ripped Of!
Perth Airport With an early flight heading out of Perth with Singapore Airlines, via Singapore it was going to be quite a long day. Transit and changing terminals in Singapore was super easy so much so that we managed a Tiger beer before boarding our connecting flight to Ho Chi Minh City. With 4 terminals, a the Skytrain efficiently moves you in between each. Beyond excited we disembarked to plane to enter the immigration area to find sea of people queued to have their p
