NOTSOGREYTRAVELLERS
Do you ever wonder how we used to travel without our phones, specifically the apps that are available on there for us as we travel from destination to destination?

Over the time that we've been preparing for our trip and in the past I have quite a collection of apps that have been useful for us. Let me share them with you.
Apps
Finance
XO Money Exchange is a must while you're trying to get you head around the local currency.
We save our hard earned money to be able to travel and we want it to last long as we can. Trip Coin app is fab to keep track of your expenses while on the road
Directions
Travel is often all about getting lost but this isn't always the case. Google Maps will save you when you need to find the well hidden hotel or hostel. Google Maps is also fabulous to find that much needed morning coffee fix or a recommended local eating joint.

MapsMe is when you don't have any network coverage as you can access previously download maps.
Imagine checking one place for your travel details and getting a heads up as things happen throughout your trip. TripIt will be a valuable app to keep you on track.

Can't remember that little village that you visited a week ago? FindPenquins is a fabulous travel tracker and journal app following you as you continue on your journey.
Language
Google Translator breaks down the language barriers when asking for information or reading a food menu.

Wanting to learn the local language for your destination? Even learning the basics like hello, goodbye, thankyou goes a long way with the locals even if your pronounciation is't the best, at least it gives you a greater opportunity to engage on a deeper level. Duolingo has been a go to for me in the past.
Culture
Tripadvisor must be the first travel app I ever downloaded and it still remains a mainstay. It's a one stop shop for researching or booking accommodation, transport, general info plus each location has an up to date forum.

Culture Trip is another booking and trip planning app but I use it mainly for their guides and cultural information.
Communication
WhatsApp is private and a fully encrypted app that will keep you in touch with family and friends while on the road with either text or video calling. Best part, it's free!

In addition to WhatsApp there are also the messaging facilities available on all your social apps like instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Snapchat.
Accommodation
This group of apps ultimately comes down to personal choice and shopping around. Personally I prefer Booking but all of the others are used on occasion. Many of these apps are also fab for booking flights.
Transport
Both 12Go and Rome2Rio answer the 'how do I get from point A to point B' question along with pricing and links to booking sites. These apps have been my number 1 apps as I research logistics for our upcoming trip.

Grab will help you when you're on the ground from ordering food, supermarket items and local transport. Very much like Uber.

Gojek is pretty much the same but only is available in Singapore and Bali.
Air
Skyscanner is my fave for booking flights due to it's usability but others may favour many of the other apps available.

So you're sitting in the departing lounge of the airport and wondering why your flight is late and where is. Flightrader24 is a live flight tracker app showing not only your flight but every other flight in the world. Actually it will astound you as to the amount of air traffic there is. I've spent hours tracking these flights while wait for my flight.
