More than 40 years after first visiting Bali on our honeymoon, we returned to discover a quieter side of the island once again. In this first vlog from Not So Grey Travellers, we explore Amed and Eastern Bali — from black sand beaches and traditional salt farms to local warungs, fishing villages and the slower rhythm of everyday life. About a month before we due to travel to Lombok they experiences massive earthquakes with a magnitude of 6.9 leaving 563 dead and thousands of people injured. It was immediately apparent that we had to do something. We sought out a village that we could support when ended up being in Mangsit on the western side of the island. After enquiring as to how best we could support them it was decided that they needed long life food basics like rice, oil, long life milk and salt. On arrival to Lombok we all went to a local supermarket purchasing all they needed which was then delivered by truck! We also brought a suitcase full of clothing donations from friends and family which was distributed to those most needy. I created this video back in 2018 so it's pretty basic but it tells a story.
